Our Thoughts:  When you first put on the coat you get the impression that it would only be for mild rides but it is actually a lot warmer than it looks. Believe it or not it keeps you warm even on cold winter rides. We are a fan of the hood which is big enough even with a helmet on, if riding with a hood is not your thing it can be easily removed. The Race Face Tempest is water resistant but I would not recommend it for very rainy rides.  If you get caught in a little rain fall you should be fine, but if staying dry is a top priority then the Tempest is not for you.  I'm sure many riders like the Lycra inner cuffs which require you to put your thumb through the cuff keeping wind out of the coat, but we found it to be a real pain. If we were going to keep the coat for any time that would definitely cut out the inner cuff system. Overall the tempest is a comfortable coat that has a nice relaxed fit to it, and it allows you to move around in the saddle rather easily which is not the case with most cycling jackets.
