Trail Description: There are several different trail options to choose from. Many of the trails are unmarked so they are quite difficult to find. There is a map available which you can pick up at the Pictou County Cycle bike shop located in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, but the trails themselves are a little difficult to navigate even with a map. Your best bet is to stick to the Fitz trail (yellow). It is the most commonly used trail and is usually quite well cleared. Even though there are many trails they tend to get grown over not because of poor construction but rather because there is not very much traffic on them. When you reach the Stoneham Chalets there are still quite a few good trails South West of there. Be prepared to do some climbing to get to the Stoneham Chalet section. If you keep climbing from the chalet area you finally reach a wind turbine where the trail comes to an end. The yellow trail (Fitz Trail) on the way down is a blast which makes the long climb up worthwhile.
Fitzpatrick's trail system has undergone some amazing changes. There are several new trails that are marked and many of the existing trails have undergone a lot of work making them truly fantastic trails. An awesome route is to climb to the top of Fitzpatrick Mountain and enjoy the epic downhill back down. Mountain bikers in Pictou County have been working very hard, and their efforts are clearly paying off.
