DEEP SUMMER PHOTO CHALLENGE WELCOMES JOHN WELLBURN OF WILLIAMS LAKE, BC AS PINKBIKE.COM WILDCARD PHOTOGRAPHER
WHISTLER, BC –
Pinkbike.com fans placed 11,382 rankings to determine dJohn Wellburn as the winner of the
Pinkbike.com Deep Summer Wildcard Search. Wellburn will join the roster of world-class mountain bike photographers competing in the Deep Summer Photo Challenge at Kokanee Crankworx Wednesday, July 20.
“I am super excited to come to Whistler and shoot in the Deep Summer comp this year,” says Wellburn after being notified of his win. “Being the Wildcard photographer in the competition is the perfect position for me because being a wild card is the story of my life! I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm beginning to build my team of shredders now. So far I have Mike Kinrade, big mountain ripper, and Cory Brunell, a rider fresh onto the mountain bike scene. Cory’s incredible style is going to blow people out of their seats when they see my images. We're going to storm the mountain and get the nuggs!”
With only three days to shoot anywhere in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park or Valley, the constraint of time is as inspiring as it is unforgiving. The invited pro photographers stepping up to the Deep Summer Photo Challenge for 2011 are Tim Zimmerman, Margus Riga, Robin O’Neill, Justin Olsen and Dan Barham.
The photographers will rally their chosen athlete teams to embark on three days of intense shooting and editing commencing Saturday, July 16. Slideshows will be handed in by the end of the day Tuesday, July 19. Then on Wednesday, July 20 a capacity crowd at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler will experience mountain biking in Whistler through the lenses of six elite photographers. Each show will be presented to a live audience with first place taking home $5,000, second place $3,000, and third place $2,000.
